Fish Oil Can Stop Your Baby's Cold

A new study in Pediatrics found that moms who take docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid found in fish oil, can decrease the chances of their babies getting colds. During the study in Mexico, one group of pregnant women took a daily fish oil supplement, while the second group of pregnant women received a placebo. Each group continued to take the dosages from their second trimester until they gave birth. After delivery, their infants were checked for common illness symptoms at one, three and six months of age. The study showed that babies whose moms took the fish oil supplement had fewer days of cold-related symptoms than infants whose moms took the placebo. It’s important to keep in mind that these findings are still new, but fish oil could be a great way to boost your baby’s immune system before he’s even born!

Would you take more fish oil to help baby fight colds?
